Date Masamune

Date Masamune was the main military commander representing Miyagi during the Sengoku Period. Having conquered the Ou Region, he achieved nationwide military fame and became known to the later generations as the “One-Eyed Dragon.” Date Masamune is recognized by his black lacquer armor and impressive helmet bearing a golden crescent.
A statue of Date Masamune on horseback overlooks the city from the site of Sendai Castle, the stronghold he was responsible for building.
