Yamadera has enchanted many visitors over the years, including the famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho, who drew inspiration from the surrounding scenery for some of his poetry.
Enjoy the rewarding view from Godaido Hall after a steep climb up the stone stairs.

Chusonji Temple

Hiraizumi – a world heritage site with origins in Pure Land ideology and an overall wish for peace. Containing over 3000 national treasures and important cultural properties, including Konjikido Hall dedicated to Amida Nyorai and the Pure Land, Chusonji Temple is an important symbol of Hiraizumi’s rich cultural history.

Goryokaku Special Historic Site

Constructed at the end of the Edo Period, Goryokaku is the first fort in Japan to utilize the French pointed star construction method and has been designated as a special historic site by the national government.
